I never know where to begin on these sorts of things. You have so much to say, and you know so many ways to say it, but when you face a wholly new project waiting for your words, your mind goes as blank as the page before you. Or at least, mine does.
I’m starting this new blog in lieu of a Substack. I tried Substack first, and maybe I’ll return to it, but for now I’m here. (To tell the truth, I haven’t quite figured Substack out yet, and am therefore a little intimidated by it.)
Well, this isn’t my first rodeo, as they say. I’ve seen the rise and fall of many different blogging and microblogging platforms. I’ve had personal accounts on many of them, full of personal things. Then I got older, and shied away from sharing such private thoughts online for all and sundry to see, and basically stopped writing for a long time (outside of my ink-and-paper journal that doesn’t see the light of day as often as it should, and the mismatched scraps in my notes app and documents that maybe one day will be sewn together into a coherent novel).
But this will be my first foray into the world of ‘real’ blogging, of writing outside my own sphere and about the wider world (which, as it turns out, is so infinitely more interesting than I am – who knew?). There is so much out there, discussed and undiscussed, to which I would like to contribute my own thoughts and musings, even if in the smallest ways that go unheard. So many unseen things that I would like to share with the world outside my window.
And the first thing I’d like to do is review some books.
